I have seen many vertical tower projects over the last 4 years.

The “Tower Garden” concept is very costly, but also pretty self sufficient and has a great support group.  I own one of their towers and have strawberries growing in it.  One downside, the older models don’t rotate and it makes the plants on the opposite side grow not as well.

The hydroponic farm that I am involved with in the Caribbean has two houses of vertical towers, growing mainly herbs and mints.  Now that I am here, it will be my job to bring that area up to speed. The system is called VertiGro, a rather cheap concept for vertical towers.

    Quite impressive!

My hydroponic operation in the States is much more traditional, though I have considered trying solar.  Unfortunately, 3 exhaust fans, 8 recirculating fans, and two pumps (not to mention the grow lamps in the winter) make it extremely costly upfront.

The hydroponic farm that I am involved in here in the Caribbean is very rudimentary in comparison to yours or even mine in the States.  We use zip ties on the shade cloth in both locations and attach a 3/4 in pvc pipe along one side to assist in rolling it up in the winter.

Again, very informative.  I will return to this link many time in the future.

    Thanks
