Contemplations on the Tree of Woe

What government wants to do but cannot, it can require corporations to do for it.

(Cognitive Dissonance - The subject of Corporate Tyranny is politicized to the point where few can engage in an informed discussion with anything resembling facts in hand. Alexander Macris makes a superb effort to do precisely that in his article re-posted here with permission. While somewhat of a long read, I urge you to read it all the way to the end, then read it again. And don't forget to visit his blog.)

If you’ve read the Parable of the Seasteader, you’ll already know that at sufficient scale the public/private distinction collapses — a private entity of sufficient size can have all the power of a public entity. It is certainly arguable that Facebook and Google have reached such size. Here, however, I want to discuss a different dilemma - government’s use of private entities to regulate freedoms it cannot directly abridge.

We’re going to look at one specific right (the right to free speech) and one specific set of Federal regulations (§ 1604.11) but the pattern I’m describing here has become ubiquitous in our country. Nowadays, almost anything government is forbidden to regulate, it can require corporations to regulate for it. The government has outsourced tyranny. Let’s see how this black magic is performed. The Coming War With China

The Coming War With China

(Have you noticed that (suddenly) China is the officially declared bad guy per nearly every jabbering media fool, think tank press release, government official and Trump himself? It's not by accident the mainstream narrative has moved off of Russia and (back) to China.  For some insight as to why, I strongly suggest you set aside a couple of hours and watch John Pilger's stunning 2016 documentary.  If you think the present day "trade war" with China is much to do about nothing, you're not paying close enough attention. - Cognitive Dissonance)

“The aim of this film is to break a silence: the United States and China may well be on the road to war, and nuclear war is no longer unthinkable,” Pilger says in his 2016 documentary The Coming War on China, which you can watch free on Youtube here or on Vimeo here.

“In a few years China has become the world’s second-biggest economic power,” Pilger’s introduction continues. “The United States is the world’s biggest military power, with bases and missiles and ships covering every continent and every ocean. China is a threat to this dominance, says Washington. But who is the threat? This film is about shifting power, and great danger.” Continue reading The Coming War With China

Society Is Made Of Narrative. Realizing This Is Awakening From The Matrix.

While it's always exciting to follow breadcrumbs laid down by others, the truly significant morsels spring from self discovery. It is not the breadcrumb itself that is revelatory, but the act of seeking and finding that brings the incremental awakening to the surface. We borrow, however temporary or permanent, when offered by others; we own when created or unearthed by our self.

But don't let this knowledge diminish the value brought by others when on our path of self discovery.  I consistently encounter significant personal breakthroughs when reading the thoughts of others, regardless if I agree with some, all, or none of their musings. While the tool (in this case articles and thoughts) may have greatly assisted me in my labor, ultimately the tool is guided by me, making the results of that labor mine to own and use.

With this in mind, I urge you to consume the following whole loaf of bread (to hell with breadcrumbs) baked up last August of 2018 by the mind of Caitlin Johnstone. It is only when we better understand ourselves can we first see, then defend, ourselves from the antics of others. Caitlin's article does precisely that. Enjoy!

Hold The Front Page: The Reporters Are Missing And Journalism Is Dead

(Edit: I've tried to write on this subject for a while now and failed, realizing I would not, probably could not, do it justice. So when I came across this article by John Pilger I quickly decided to re-post it. Please excuse the British theme. The music may be different, but the theme (regardless of your political, religious or social affiliation) remains the same here in the US.

This is not about suppressing conservative or liberal voices. This is about suppressing dissent of any kind that does not follow or support the official narrative. - Cognitive Dissonance)

So much of mainstream journalism has descended to the level of a cult-like formula of bias, hearsay and omission. Subjectivism is all; slogans and outrage are proof enough. What matters is “perception,” says John Pilger.

The death of Robert Parry earlier this year felt like a farewell to the age of the reporter. Parry was “a trailblazer for independent journalism”, wrote Seymour Hersh, with whom he shared much in common.

Hersh revealed the My Lai massacre in Vietnam and the secret bombing of Cambodia, Parry exposed Iran-Contra, a drugs and gun-running conspiracy that led to the White House. In 2016, they separately produced compelling evidence that the Assad government in Syria had not used chemical weapons. They were not forgiven.

Driven from the “mainstream”, Hersh must publish his work outside the United States. Parry set up his own independent news website Consortium News, where, in a final piece following a stroke, he referred to journalism’s veneration of “approved opinions” while “unapproved evidence is brushed aside or disparaged regardless of its quality.” Continue reading Hold The Front Page: The Reporters Are Missing And Journalism Is Dead

Some Thoughts from the Front Lines

Some Thoughts from the Front Lines

Casey Stengel

Editor - One of the ways we avoid catastrophe fatigue and protect our denial is to avoid knowing the details, the day to day trials and tribulations of those directly affected by whatever disaster, natural or man-made, is unfolding before our eyes. We maintain our standard of living and its accompanying point of view, deliberately entangled and mutually dependent, by expressing empathy when convenient or necessary to defend our emotional and physical status quo.

Essentially we ignore what is inconvenient or painful to ponder. Like a complex pattern made out of dominoes, once one is unsettled, all are eventually disturbed. To deeply and honestly consider the plight of faraway refugees in Greece, Turkey or wherever they flee ultimately leads to direct acknowledgement of the deliberate and unconscionable political meddling and war making foreign policy of the United States, enthusiastically supported by both political parties, and its compliant allies.

From there, it’s just a short leap directly to you and me. And that’s just a little too close to home, isn’t it? So why even go there? It’s so much easier, and emotionally safer, to swallow whole without chewing the comforting pabulum served up by the US Government and its propaganda arm, the mainstream media. We like our truth carefully filtered and pleasantly intoxicating.

By accident of birth I was born a US citizen, therefore ‘entitled’ to various rights and opportunities which, while under direct and sustained assault from all quarters, still greatly exceeds those afforded the majority of people on our planet. I do not possess the courage to wade directly into that ocean of misery and despair, but Mr. and Mrs. Stengel, friends of ours for several years now, have and do. The following was written by Casey Stengel (and lightly edited by me) during a particularly difficult time in his work when he was struggling to find the proper mix of empathy, constructive assistance and inner peace. – Cognitive Dissonance

Mrs. Stengel and I are working with refugees from the Middle East (ME) and Africa. Not because we especially want to, but we sensed that little voice within saying we should do this. Several years ago, in the wake of the financial coup d’état of 2008-09, Mrs. Stengel and I made great strides in our awakening to the reality of the corrupt central bank warfare model the US lives under and propagates on a global basis.

We began to ask ourselves what our role was going forward and we both came to the same conclusion: we should live our lives in such a way that others will benefit from the blessings we enjoy. We endeavored in our hearts not to waste the years between 60 and 70 solely on selfish pursuits, but to use those years to make the world a better place for at least a few people.
