The Superman Syndrome

By Cognitive Dissonance

The other day Mrs. Cog and I were discussing the latest fear mongering article by a well known doom porn purveyor. Of particular note was the actual technique use to inflame both hope and fear; a particularly effective mind control technique when used with precision and skill on a previously primed audience.

The name of the author is not important and thus, in order not to distract from the conversation, will remain nameless. The technique employed, however, warrants further discussion because of its effectiveness. First it outlines (in frighteningly graphic terms) a potentially mortal danger developing in the political/financial/military sphere, then it reveals some hidden knowledge gained from special insiders who (perhaps, maybe, possibly) are ready to step in and intercede on our behalf. An Old Soul Named Gray Kitty

We have a feral cat. Or, more accurately, a feral cat has us. We’ve named him Gray Kitty for the most obvious of reasons. The thing is……we already have a house cat, a huge twenty pound Maine Coon cat we call Tramp, the other half of Lady and the Tramp. When Mrs. Cog walked into my life nearly five years ago, in tow was the child unit, now soon off to college, and Tramp, a permanent resident.

Gray Kitty, on the other hand, is a relatively recent addition to our family, having graced our lives two years ago this past April. He doesn’t live here; he just visits to partake in the endless buffet and some lively before dinner conversation. Rarely does he stick around for long after gorging on the tasty repast. I suspect from his point of view that would be oafish and crude.

We crossed paths by accident, though I am wondering if it was ‘on accident’ for I have learned much about life interacting with Gray Kitty. Maybe the Gods were being kind to me when they dropped Gray Kitty into my life. If so, I’m grateful for the gift. Continue reading An Old Soul Named Gray Kitty

The Sociopaths Among Us

By

Cognitive Dissonance

We mere mortals are at such a terrible disadvantage when dealing with the sociopathic criminal element of the world, let alone their sycophant minions and enablers. Often it isn’t even a fair fight, regardless of the fact we outnumber them a ten thousand to one.

What passes for standard operating procedure (SOP) on Wall Street and in Washington DC would never even cross our minds as a valid choice, let alone desirable or even possible to consider. In fact, we find most of the sociopath’s more egregious antics to be too fantastical to actually be true because we would never ever consider doing those things ourselves.

This social/psychological phenomenon is precisely why The Big Lie (and the mountain of smaller lies supporting The Big Lie) is so powerful and utterly believable to the average Jane or Joe. Time and time again I have heard a person, still deeply embedded within the Matrix, tell me the revelation I’ve just passed on to him or her is simply impossible, thus in their mind discredited and totally without merit.
