While we may use both 'money' and 'energy' on a daily basis, rarely do we give much thought to what money actually  is and its connection to energy. Reverse Engineer (RE), one of our newest members and a co-founder of Doomstead Diner, offered TIF the opportunity to re-post part one of his 2012 series on money and energy. I found it extremely helpful to travel back in time with RE to examine the origins of money and how it relates to today's 'economy'.

As with so much else up here on the mountain, every project I tackle ultimately winds up tackling me. In fact my project eyes tend to be much larger than my belly of knowledge, though my stubborn streak and dogged perseverance tends to save me from myself more often than I care to admit.

Still....I try to follow the golden rule of life, one which has served me quite well. When I finally look around and find myself in a hole, the golden rule is to stop digging and climb back out. Thankfully I usually follow that advice.

This article is the first in a series to be posted over the next several weeks describing the hole I dug while designing and installing the first phase of our photovoltaic power system. Subsequent chapters with go into much greater detail about each section of the system.  Please join me for chapter one.

The Money Wars

At some point in the future, those who have the privilege of writing the history about our present day events will find clever turns of phrase to describe our times. If those future scribes have any inkling of what actually transpired I imagine they will be able to clearly communicate these were the years of the ‘Money Wars’.

It certainly is an ingenious way to keep the world’s population passionately quarreling between themselves while the pirates, those who are actually looting the world, are busy scheming and directing the pillage. It is my sincerest hope it all ends on a positive note, one that entails some big unintended consequence for all the plotting parties involved. Continue reading The Money Wars
